Today was a MOPS day….meeting with fellow Mothers Of Preschoolers is proving to be loads of fun for both me and my children and these women heading up both our group and caring for our youngins’ while we get our “mommy time” are God sent!! Today was my first opportunity to craft with our group and let me tell you…it was great!! Our project today was medicinal body scrubs, supplied by Niccole of Domestic Diva Designs.
What better for a group of moms than something to pamper themselves? Well, she had the foresight to bring enough for us each to take home two, that way if we wanted we could keep one and gift the other for the holidays. Being as I don’t participate in Christmas, I don’t have to feel bad to keep both!! The process was super simple:
Mix equal parts COCONUT OIL and either brown sugar or SEA SALT in a large container. Place the concoction into smaller jars, we used BALL 4 OZ. CANNING JARS, and add just a few drops of any ESSENTIAL OILS you like. We then just used our fingers to mix it around a bit. She brought orange, lavender, lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus. Of course, each oil gives a different property. I tend to need “woke up” so peppermint was a super choice, and we’ve been battling colds and the flu so eucalyptus got my vote, too. If you want more information on oils and their qualities, there are great resources at aromaweb.com. Niccole said that she orders most of her oils and also the coconut oil base from amazon.com.
Everyone but me then decorated their jars with some super cute supplies. She had fabrics that fit the season as well as an entire world of different RIBBONS to tie in a bow around the FABRIC covered lids and the cutest little tags to label the scent (etc) or use as gift tags. I’m going to keep mine and don’t need it to be decorative so I saved her supplies!! (Or….maybe I talk too much and just didn’t get to it…maybe.)
My kids were super interested in the mystery jars when we got home, so I let them rub just a bit of the brown sugar scrub on their lips. They thought it was delicious!! I reclaimed it before they just sat and ate it (my youngest literally said, “I’m getting a spoon!”), but I should’ve put it out of reach. It wasn’t long before my daughter said, “Uh, mom….” Yeah. She completely rubbed herself down with the sea salt version. Salt. ALL over her! That was fun. But her skin is in fact nice and soft and she smelled wonderful. Even better, there will be no stuffy head tonight!
