I remember once walking through my pasture, and I spotted some flowering self-heal. Of course I started picking it up, pinching the stems in such a way to ensure more growth. My oldest son was wanting to keep moving toward the creek, and, frustrated at the time it was taking me, he questioned my motives. “Son,” I said, without stopping my work, “If God gives you a field of self-heal you had better pick it up.” I don’t think he knew or cared what I meant, but he did know from then on that sometimes he would have to wait for me to harvest random herbs, and there really was no use trying to get me to stop.
Here are some of my favorites that I find on our farm and also that I grow. As I get around to them (like harvest) I’ll get more pics and start creating links to dedicated pages!
