So the weekends over and I just want to share a tiny bit of it with you, as it will probably be later in the week before I post again (I am creating my herb pages!!!!)
Thursday evening I gave my friend her box and I think she loved it as much as I do, so that was good. We also took a big batch of chicken n dumplins, and that will soften anyone up. Friday morning we had a late start but my kids went to Grandma’s and I found myself and my baskets in the pasture gathering herbs. It was a pretty good collection, but I won’t go into much on that now. I’m going to put that sort of thing on the herb pages so you don’t get an e-mail every time if you’re not interested in plant medicine. Anyway, I harvested yarrow, elder flowers and red clover, picked some flowers I just thought were pretty, and cut a sample of one other thing I didn’t know. I ended up remembering what all I was supposed to go to town to do, so the rest of the day was spent on errands, and I didn’t get any of my housework done. I felt pretty discouraged when my in-laws brought
the kids home to a messy house and I was just making dinner at 7:00, but by nighttime my oldest boy and I decided we should just swim and forget about the work. That was so nice!! Turns out eleven at night is in fact the time to swim (no sunburn!), and soon my husband cannonballed his way in too! It was so much fun and of course my boy just thought it was great because it wasn’t normal. We no sooner got out of our wet clothes and the power went out, and that was nice too! I got to light my candles in the woodstove (which my husband thought was super silly until then, cause while he was hunting a flashlight in the dark I knew where my candles were!), and then we sat on the back deck and enjoyed such a beautiful show of lightning bugs!! It was so peaceful and quiet, and I tell you, nature outdoes anything a man can make to copy it (i.e. Christmas lights).
Other than all that, we got the grass mostly mowed and played in the garden a little (First Harvest!!!…lettuce and radishes!!) Sunday we got to spend time with another couple of friends that we don’t see often, so all in all it was a quiet but wonderful weekend!!
